Eskom infrastructure vandalism interrupts water supply
Substation vandalism causes water interruption on eSikhaleni and surrounding areas
The City of uMhlathuze has announced the interruption of water supply to its southern cluster areas, including eSikhaleni township and its surroundings, KwaDube, KwaMkhwanazi north and south, as well as wards 10 to 22, 30, and 34.
According to the city, this disruption is owing to an electricity failure caused by cable theft and vandalism at the Zirco Substation in Madlankala.

“As a result, pumping from the iCubhu Water Treatment Plant, which supplies the forest reservoir, has been severely affected,” said the city.
Following an assessment of the damage, Eskom has indicated that full restoration of power will take some time.
“However, teams are working tirelessly around the clock to restore electricity. The estimated time of completion will be communicated as soon as it becomes available,” said the city in a statement.
In the meantime, the city will dispatch water tankers to the affected communities to ensure residents have access to water.
