How to declutter your life in 5 easy steps
Here are 5 ways to declutter your mind, body and soul this spring
The new season is upon us, and if tradition prevails, many people will be spring cleaning their homes this weekend.
While it is always a great idea to declutter your space, what about spring cleaning your life? Yes, your life!
From the thousands of pictures, videos and contacts on your phone, to those jeans you thought you would fit into by now, they all need to go.
5 ways to declutter your mind, body and soul this spring
1. Shift your diet and try movement:
There is no better time than now to go after all your dietary and fitness goals. Clean out your cupboards of any foods that may have passed their expiry dates, as the time for comfort eating has come to an end. The new season means longer days and shorter nights, so take advantage of the sunshine and go for a morning walk or run. In addition to the physical benefits, it is incredible for mental health, too.
2. Delete those numbers:
As the saying goes, ‘different strokes for different folks’. In the spirit of making way for the new, maybe it is time to delete your ex’s or frenemy’s numbers in a bid to move on with your life and protect your peace.
3. Prioritise rest:
Sufficient and quality rest are said to improve physical and mental health. Sleep has the power to strengthen the immune system while supporting hormone balance and repairing cells and tissues. Additionally, it amplifies cognitive functions such as memory and concentration.
4. Serve procrastination with an eviction notice:
South Africans may be the kings and queens of ‘just now’, but consistent procrastination stops people from reaching their full potential. One way to tackle it head-on is to set an alarm with a snooze for every 10 or 15 minutes (depending on the task). When the alarm rings, you should have completed that specific task. While it will be trial and error at first, doing this will equip you with time management skills, which is the key to success.
5. Reduce screen time:
Our phones have become our best friends. Start with dedicating at least 30 minutes a day to other passions, including going for a walk, walking the dogs, reading a book, or strengthening your spiritual life by either reading your Bible or meditating. Limiting your screen time aids in maintaining inter-personal relationships while allowing you to live in the moment.
