Sanitary essentials donated to Richards Bay schoolgirls
Transnet Helping to keep a girl child in school with recent donation to learners at Siphumelele Secondary School in Mzingazi
Compassion and community care were central to an outreach led by employees of Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA) in Richards Bay during Women’s Month, where 678 sanitary packs were donated to learners at Siphumelele Secondary School in Mzingazi.
The TNPA employees’ donation was part of the initiative, Helping Keep a Girl Child in School, and aimed to contribute towards reduced absenteeism, restoring dignity, and improving educational outcomes for girl learners.
In addition to the donation, pupils were empowered with feminine health and hygiene education delivered by human environment manager from the TNPA Clinic, Sister Brightness Malo.
She equipped the girls with essential knowledge to manage their health and well-being with confidence.
“This initiative demonstrates the spirit of ubuntu that drives our employees. At the Port of Richards Bay, we believe true success goes beyond operational excellence – it is also about uplifting the communities around us,” said Port of Richards Bay port manager Dennis Mqadi.
“By supporting girl learners, we are investing in the future of our society, because when a girl child remains in school, the entire community benefits.”
The initiative reflects the ongoing commitment of TNPA Port of Richards Bay employees to making a positive difference in the community, reinforcing the port’s role not only as a hub for trade and economic growth, but also as a partner in social development.
