Date set for Port of Richards Bay oil refinery

Richards Bay Port set for oil refinery in partnership between SA’s Central Energy Fund and Saudi Aramco

STILL in the pipeline after years of discussions, the proposed $10-billion crude oil refinery earmarked for Richards Bay is cited as an anticipated economic ‘game changer’.

This amid expectations for the proposed development to come online in 2028.

The refinery is being developed through a partnership between South Africa’s Central Energy Fund (CEF) and Saudi Aramco – expected to produce ‘cleaner oils to meet domestic and regional demand’.
