Marimba-tious appeal: Richards Bay school band seeks final funds for nationals

Funding crescendo: Richards Bay Primary’s marimba band makes final push

GRANTED an extension after their payment deadline last week, Richards Bay Primary School’s Uxolo Marimba Band launches a fresh appeal for sponsorship to compete in the National Marimba Championships later this month.

The school made an initial payment last week after local drone specialists, Hussar Security’s R10 000 pledge, and 15 of the band members’ parents being able to pay the tour fee, along with other sponsorships and fundraising covering the costs for participation.

The other seven team members, who are key players in the 22-member band are among those who could not make the payment.

The organiser, JJ le Roux, said the event organisers have allowed the school to add more members if extra funds come in.

“With the competition on 29 and 30 September, we still have time to raise extra funds to take the full complement of players,” said Le Roux.

The prestigious event celebrates musical talent from schools across South Africa, and the appeal for support includes transport, meals, accommodation and competition entry fees.

For more information on the outstanding amount required, JJ le Roux can be contacted on 082 4165875.
