Investment projects pitched at Empangeni summit

uMkhanyakude showcases 11 billion-rand investment projects to attract investors, boost economic growth and create jobs across the district.

LOCAL investment opportunities worth billions were on Thursday pitched to potential investors at a corporate investment dinner in Empangeni.

In a bid to stimulate economic growth and create jobs, uMkhanyakude District Municipality – led by Deputy Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation Dr Nomalungelo Gina – showcased 11 catalytic projects spanning agriculture, agro-processing, tourism, conservation, property development, aviation and logistics.

Gina was joined by provincial Agriculture and Rural Development MEC Thembeni kaMadlopha-Mthethwa and uMkhanyakude Mayor Siphile Mdaka.

The uMhlosinga Development Agency and Zululand Chamber of Commerce and Industry were also partners.

The initiative is aligned with the District Development Model and the municipality’s One Plan which aims to translate uMkhanyakude’s development priorities into viable investment opportunities.

Gina said investment in catalytic projects was essential in creating jobs, attracting capital and improving the district’s long-term development prospects.

“All of us must have a clear imagination of what uMkhanyakude can look like in a decade if all identified projects are successfully implemented in each local municipality,” she said.
