Richards Bay monkey bridge campaign swings into action

Engineers design suspended cable bridge to help monkeys safely cross busy Richards Bay roads

In a bid to reduce deaths of vervet monkeys on the roads, a bridge design has been created for busy routes in and around Richards Bay.

Ian Loretz, structural engineer at Hokmah Consulting Engineers, has completed structural designs and drawings.

His call to help wildlife emanates from his daughter Mikaili, who heard about the project from a family friend, Wilma Paxton, who is spearheading the campaign.

“After obtaining all the details and doing some research, we agreed to offer our services as it is not often you get to design a suspended cable bridge,” said Loretz.
