SRD grant declined? Make an appeal

Applicants not satisfied with reasons for declined Sassa SRD application can submit an appeal

Applicants who have been declined for the Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant and are not satisfied with the reasons for the declined application, can appeal the decision.

The SRD grant is administered in terms of Section 32 of the Social Assistance Act, 2004 (Act No. 13 of 2004) and is implemented with the concurrence of the minister of finance.

The SRD grant is meant for South African citizens, refugees, asylum seekers and special permit holders between the ages of 18 and 60, who have insufficient means, who do not receive social grants on behalf of herself/himself, who are not contributing to, or eligible for, UIF payment, and have no financial support from any other source.

The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) verifies applicants’ financial status using external databases, and applications can be declined if income is detected through bank records or other financial institutions.

To appeal, visit: https://srdinternal.sassa.gov.za (internal users) or https://srd.sassa.gov.za (external users) and follow the steps provided.
