High level KZN political delegation visits Richards Bay truck stops

Included in the delegation were DA Federal Leader John Steenhuisen

Having been vocal about truck congestion destined for the Port of Richards Bay, which often causes chaos on the John Ross highway, City of uMhlathuze Deputy Mayor Christo Botha on Tuesday led a high-level DA delegation to examine two truck stops within the municipality.

Among the visited sites were Gate Zero, which is already operational, and the Eyamakhosi truck staging facility, which is expected to open in two months’ time.

Intended to reduce traffic congestion and reduce the financial burden on the municipality, the two sites will accommodate around 1 350 tipper trucks in total.

Included in the delegation were DA Federal Leader John Steenhuisen, KZN Provincial Chairperson Dean Macpherson, and Deputy Leader Sithembiso Ngema.

Speaking during the visit, Macpherson expressed pride in their councillors’ involvement in developments in the city in which they share governance.

“What they’ve done is to solve a problem that was being created by the national government. We really commend them. This is the kind of work we expect from those we send into government — to fix problems, grow the economy, and create jobs,” said Macpherson.

Joining the oversight inspection were DA King Cetshwayo Constituency Head Shontel de Boer and councillors.
