Weather service issues wind alert for KZN coastline

Warning in place for damaging winds from Durban to Kosi Bay

BATTEN down the hatches, it’s going to be a windy Heritage Day afternoon.

This after the South African Weather Service (SAWS) this morning (Wednesday) issued a level 1 warning for damaging winds to affect the coast of KwaZulu-Natal.

The warning is in place from 11am until midnight tonight.

“A strong ridging high pressure resulting in strong winds with average speeds of 15 – 25kt, expected to gust up to 40kt between Durban and Kosi Bay,” said the weather desk.

Potential impacts
• Localised damage to settlements, both formal and informal
• Some transport routes and travel services affected by wind and falling trees
• Risk of localised runaway fires
