Felixton company steps in to fix dangerous stretch of road

The dangerous condition of the P343 towards Felixton has led to a local company taking road repairs into their own hands.

Paper milling company, Mpact, has been granted permission by the KZN Department of Transport (DoT) to undertake repair works to improve road safety.

“The condition of the route between the R102 and Felixton Mills (servicing both Mpact and Hulett) has deteriorated to a point where it poses a significant safety risk to motorists and pedestrians,” said Louis van Dyk, mill manager at Mpact Felixton Mill.

“Despite repeated requests for intervention, local government has been unable to address the matter.”

Mpact has appointed a team to execute minor repairs starting today (Monday) and expected to conclude on Monday, 13 October.

Traffic management measures, including flagmen and signage, will be in place.

Motorists are urged to reduce speed and exercise caution to ensure the safety of construction crews and themselves.
