While Richards Bay and its surrounding areas are fertile ground for investment, beleaguered Police Minister Senzo Mchunu says concerted efforts must be made to ensure industries operate in a safe and secure environment.
The suspended minister was speaking at the first instalment of the Richards Bay Minerals Community Imbizo in KwaMbonambi on Sunday.

“There are a lot of industries around Richards Bay, but there are still opportunities for other industries.
“I am aware of this because before I went on leave, which I am currently on as police minister, I had the opportunity of being invited by the Chamber of Industries in Richards Bay, and we engaged on issues that are security-related.
“We agreed that we need to ensure all these industries work in a safe and secure environment, to ensure investment and job opportunities,” said Mchunu.
He also highlighted efforts to bridge the gap between the mining giant, traditional authorities and host communities.
