WATCH: The ‘hole’ truth in Richards Bay

Large potholes with sharp edges reported by motorists in Duralumin Duct, Alton

YOU get potholes…and then you get potholes, like this jumbo one in Duralumin Duct in Alton, Richards Bay.

Brought to the attention of the Zululand Observer as an oft-reported danger over the past months, the complainant is still waiting for response to her claim for tyre loss.

A visit to the site on Thursday confirmed just how deep the holes are, with sharp and steel edges that invite serious wheel and rim damage.

Although not the busiest of roads in Alton, it nevertheless is used day and night – the darkness posing even greater hazard.

A combination of heavy trucks and heavy rain is certainly not the friend of road users, but a drive through the rest of Alton, where painting of road markings is in progress, showed a surprisingly low number of potholes.
