Electricity theft leads to load cuts in uMfolozi

uMfolozi mayor slams theft of electricity, urging community members to pay for power

THE only way to prevent load reductions is to stop illegal connections and pay for legal electricity tokens.

This was shared by uMfolozi Mayor Xolani Bhengu during a meeting at KwaMbuyazi Tribal Court on Tuesday.

The meeting was attended by municipal manager Fred Mazibuko, CFO Thula Nkosi, and traditional council members
Eskom, which was represented by Sipho Ndlovu, implemented load reduction from 5pm to 9pm in Ward 3 as illegal connections resulted in damage to a transformer.

Ndlovu explained the challenges include an increasing number of households in the area and illegal connections, resulting in lost revenue.

“We implemented load reduction to protect our infrastructure and the danger imposed by heavy consumption. We plead with the community to safeguard our infrastructure,” said Ndlovu.
