Join the conversation at Cuppa for CANSA in November

Join organiser Dr Jayeshnee Moodley and panel of experts at Cuppa for CANSA in Richards Bay

ZULULAND’s Cuppa for CANSA, hosted by Dr Jayeshnee Moodley, invites women to an exclusive high tea with French flair and purpose.

This prestigious event is on Saturday, 22 November from 10am to 1pm at Outlook Church, Richards Bay.

This is a fundraiser for CANSA Association and Zululand Hospice, with a panel of specialists who will answer questions about cancer, treatment and support.

Three of the medical experts share more about the importance of Cuppa for CANSA.

Dr Jayeshnee Moodley, specialist obstetrician and gynaecologist at Melomed Richards Bay, has led a free cervical cancer screening campaign for 12 years and offers a cancer-prevention colposcopy clinic at Queen Nandi Regional Hospital.

She joined the Zululand community in 2014 as the first female obstetrician and gynaecologist in private practice in the region.

In 2017, she was awarded Zululand Businesswoman of the Year and completed her MBA at Yale University.

A mother of two and wife to Randal Pedro, she strives to create a family-centred atmosphere in her practice, and is passionate about women’s health and empowerment.

“Women are the cornerstone of family and community. Without a strong physical, emotional and mental female role model, families and communities suffer. Cuppa for CANSA has been a vision of mine for years and I’m thankful that it can come to fruition.”

Dr Mariëtte Mouton, specialist plastic and reconstructive surgeon in Richards Bay and the only permanent plastic surgeon in Zululand, provides reconstructive procedures and aesthetic enhancements.

“It’s not just about sharing a cup of tea, it’s about standing together in support of cancer patients and their families,” said Dr Mouton.

“The funds raised make a real difference by providing care, counselling, prostheses and vital education about cancer prevention and early detection. By joining in, we create hope, build awareness – and remind those affected that they are not alone.”

Dr Irene Coutsoudis, a family practitioner in St Lucia for 15 years, combines conventional medicine with a holistic approach focusing on mind, body and spirit.

Her practice integrates nutrition, movement and community support.

“I believe true health is not just the absence of disease, but the presence of vitality, resilience and a sense of purpose. “Cancer touches every family and every community in some way. As a doctor, I have walked this road with many of my patients and their families – through the fear, the treatment, and often the incredible stories of resilience and hope.

“Cuppa for CANSA is not only about raising funds, but also about raising awareness, standing together as a community, and supporting those who are fighting this battle.”
