WATCH: 3 serious collisions keep paramedics on high alert

Multiple people injured in three separate crashes in Vryheid over the weekend

Paramedics endured a demanding Sunday, responding to three separate vehicle collisions within eight hours in Vryheid.

KwaZulu Private Ambulance (KZPA) paramedics attended to the crashes, which left five people seriously injured and two with minor injuries.

The day began at around 8.30am when a bus and car collided on Emondlo Road.

KZPA spokesperson Craig Botha said three occupants required medical attention, two with serious injuries and one with minor injuries.

“KwaZulu Private Ambulance paramedics worked swiftly to stabilise all patients at the chaotic scene before arranging transport to the hospital for further care,” said Botha.

At midday, paramedics were called to a scene on the R33 Khambula Road, where a bakkie lost control and overturned, rolling multiple times.

“The devastating force of the roll-over ejected both occupants from the vehicle. They sustained serious injuries and were treated on scene before being transported to the hospital,” explained Botha.

Later in the afternoon, at about 4.30pm, emergency services were dispatched to a third crash, this one on the R69 Louwsburg Road.

“A bakkie had overturned after losing control, trapping the occupants inside. Two patients were extracted from the wreck, one with serious injuries and another with minor injuries. Both were stabilised and transported to the hospital,” said Botha.

Police have launched investigations into all three accidents, to determine the causes and contributing factors.

“This series of collisions serves as a stark reminder of the importance of road safety, particularly vigilance and adherence to speed limits on regional roads. Motorists are urged to exercise caution, maintain safe following distances, and adjust their driving according to road conditions,” said Botha.
