Change your number plate, KZN vehicle owners warned

KwaZulu-Natal drivers reminded to change their number plates before 30 November deadline to avoid traffic fines, potential legal issues.

As the deadline looms for KwaZulu-Natal registered vehicles to change to the new ‘ZN’ number plate, vehicle owners are warned to comply or face traffic fines, failed licence renewals or potential legal issues.

The KZN Department of Transport has reminded motorists that after 30 November, the old KZN number plates will become invalid.

“We urge motorists to ensure transition early to avoid congestion closer to the deadline,” said Transport MEC Siboniso Duma.

Launching the new system in November 2023, the department said the changes to the new licence numbering system were prompted by the fact that some towns had run out of numbers.

As of December last year, motorists renewing their vehicle licences were automatically changed over to the new number plate.
