In response, Cogta MEC Thulasizwe Buthelezi deployed Disaster Management teams, with preliminary reports from the Provincial Disaster Management Centre indicating several households were destroyed.

Additionally, power lines were down multiple areas posing serious safety risks, while network connectivity remains unavailable, severely disrupting communication and coordination efforts.

The eepartment is working closely with local municipalities, Eskom, and other relevant stakeholders to restore essential services and ensure the safety of residents,” he said.

“We are prioritising the safety and well-being of our people. We urge residents to remain vigilant and avoid any areas where power lines have been damaged.”
