Licensing centre brings services closer to community
Mandeni Motor Licensing centre opens
THE spirit of collaboration between government departments and communities was evident during the official handover of the new Motor Licensing and Driver’s Licence Testing Centre in Mandeni Municipality.
The state-of-the-art facility, officially opened last week by Transport MEC Siboniso Duma, marks a significant milestone in improving access to essential services for Mandeni residents.

Equipped with modern technology, the centre is designed to provide efficient, reliable service to residents.
The event drew a large crowd, including local councillors, traditional leaders and residents, who all united in celebration of this long-awaited development.
Mandeni Mayor Thabani Mdlalose praised the partnership between the provincial government and the municipality, describing it as a model of cooperative governance that places people at the centre of development.
“Without working together, we wouldn’t be here today. Our collaboration ensures that what our community deserves finally reaches their hands. This centre will create various job opportunities, from transport services bringing people here, to local traders, security personnel and administrative workers. This is community development in action,” said Mdlalose.
Traditional leader iNkosi Ngcobo of the Hlomendlini Tribal Authority expressed heartfelt gratitude, noting that residents would no longer have to travel long distances to access licensing services.
“We are thankful that our people can now access these services right here at home. Let us protect and make good use of this facility so it continues to serve our community,” said Ngcobo.
Ilembe District Mayor Thobani Shandu urged residents to utilise and support the new centre.
“Mandeni has been in the news for road accidents on the N2. I believe this centre will help promote a culture of road safety and responsibility. Let’s ensure it operates smoothly and benefits everyone,” he said.

In his keynote address, Duma reflected on the long journey leading to the centre’s completion, calling it a dream realised through persistence and partnership.
“This dream began years ago with men and women who wanted better for their community. Today, that dream is a reality. People no longer have to travel to eShowe or Stanger for services,” he said.
The MEC also urged residents to uphold integrity by refraining from offering bribes or shortcuts in dealing with officials.
