KZN employment gains commended
Premier Thami Ntuli commends positive job gains in KZN, calls for continued growth
While South Africa’s unemployment rate remains high, KZN is counting some positive gains in job creation.
According to the Quarterly Labour Force Survey (QLFS) released this week by StatsSA, the unemployment rate decreased from 33.2% in the second quarter of 2025 (Q2) to 31.9% in Q3.

KZN and the Western Cape recorded the largest increases in employment in the third quarter, with 54 000 and 70 000 new jobs respectively.
This is welcomed by KZN Premier Thami Ntuli, who said it is a clear sign that the province is moving in the right direction.

“We are beginning to see tangible results from our infrastructure-led recovery strategy.
“The continued growth of the construction sector, supported by the Department of Public Works and Infrastructure (DPWI), has not only boosted employment but has also created opportunities for small contractors and artisans across KwaZulu-Natal,” said Ntuli.
The premier commended efforts of all departments and other stakeholders who have contributed to the province’s improving labour market performance.
Ntuli highlighted construction, agriculture and community services sectors, which have shown growth.
“Our goal remains clear — to build a prosperous KwaZulu-Natal where every citizen has the opportunity to work, thrive, and contribute to the growth of our province. These numbers are just the beginning of what we can achieve together,” he added.
