Shabach Cares plans Christmas celebration for families in need

Richards Bay NPO urges community support to bring Christmas cheer to local families

As the festive season approaches, Richards Bay NPO Shabach Cares is bringing Christmas cheer to hundreds of families through a special community event.

It will be held on Friday, 5 December at 60 Gibbum Grove, Brackenham.

Committed to supporting families in crisis, Shabach Cares runs a feeding scheme that provides meals to between 300 and 400 people a week.

The initiative has been running for three years in Brackenham and 18 months in Aquadene, with donations and financial support provided by local businesses.

There’s also an underwear drive, music training for the youth, and clothing donations.

This year, Shabach Cares is taking its support a step further by hosting a festive Christmas meal and celebration. This will include a hearty meal, festive atmosphere, and small gifts to share.

Help bring Christmas cheer

Charity founder Vee Yankansamy said, to bring this vision to life the organisation is appealing to the public for assistance.

“This event is more than just a meal, it’s an opportunity to share warmth, hope, and the Christmas spirit with those who need it most,” she said.

A call has been made for community members, businesses and local leaders to contribute monetary donations or support in kind.

Vee says this may include food items, cold drinks, sweets, toys, soap, blankets, and other essentials.

Funds are also needed to cover costs such as decorations and the hire of portable toilets.

“Every contribution, big or small, helps us make this day truly special,” she added.

Donations can be made via EFT, with banking details available upon request. In-kind donations may be dropped off directly at the venue.
