Diski Boyz denied by lightning

Lightning and a torrential downpour interrupts Richards Bay FC U23 game against AmaZulu

The weather gods denied the Richards Bay FC U23 side a runaway win over AmaZulu in their DStv Diski Challenge game played on Saturday.

They were up 3-0 at half time when play was called off owing to lightning and a torrential downpour.

A waterlogged field denied any opportunity of resumption at the Mpumalanga Stadium and the officials called it a day.

The PSL will decide on further action, but it would be cruel if the fixture is declared a non-contest and the points are shared.

Logically, a new date should be set, resuming with the second half and the score at 3-0.

As it was, the junior Rich Boyz, seeking to emulate the PSL side’s 2-0 win over the Usuthu on Friday night, had enjoyed a flying start.

Thanks to a 6th minute goal from Mbulelo Nombengula, followed by a brace from Lundi Mahala (8th and 34th minutes), a cricket score was on the cards.

However, it was not to be as the storm terminated matters prematurely and NRB were denied the chance to climb to position four on the log.

Thus the first half of the season concluded on a disappointing note, with the Diski Boyz set to resume combat with a home fixture against Kaizer Chiefs on Saturday 10 January.

This begins a busy schedule for the month:

• 17 January vs TS Galaxy (away)
• 24 January vs Siwelele (home)
• 31 January vs Golden Arrows (home).
