Tree of Light to bring music, memories and hope to Empangeni
Zululand Hospice hosts annual Tree of Light on Thursday, uniting families for music, remembrance and support of palliative care patients.
Zululand Hospice Association’s (ZHA) Tree of Light has gone up and will light up the night this Thursday, 4 December.
The annual ceremony is set to get under way at 5.45pm at the ZO grounds, 3 Baines Road, Empangeni.
The enchanting voices of the Unizulu choir’s most experienced trio will set the tone, and everyone is welcome to join the carol singing.
The iconic Dr Mfundo Ntaka will be on saxophone and Sya Mfeka on keyboard.
Expect classic melodies such as Jingle Bells, Oh Holy Night, Silent Night, Hallelujah and Joy to the World.

Dr Bhekani ‘Mbhexeshi’ Buthelezi, a music lecturer and choir conductor at Unizulu said, “Music is healing, therapeutic and comforting. It is through music that we bring hope, comfort and happiness.”
This annual event has been going for more than 30 years, with ZHA bringing the community together.
Everyone lights a candle and gathers around the Tree of Light, offering prayers for loved ones lost.
It’s a special evening for the whole family, with proceeds supporting ZHA’s palliative care patients.
Briyani and wors rolls will be on sale, and pre-meal tickets can be bought at the ZHA’s charity shop at 18 Turnbull Street.
Entry fee is R20 per family and memorial candles are R10. For more information, contact ZHA on 035 7724910.
The public are requested to bring their own camping chairs, blankets and torches, and to set up around the Tree of Light. Parking is opposite the ZO premises.
