City of uMhlathuze prepares for influx at pools and beaches
uMhlathuze increases number of lifeguards, urges residents and visitors to enjoy recreational facilities responsibly this festive season
The City of uMhlathuze has deployed 27 additional lifeguards at public swimming pools and beaches to curb drownings over the festive season.
This is amid an expected influx of residents and visitors at these recreational facilities over the holidays.
“This strategic measure aims to maintain our excellent record of zero drownings since October of this year,” the municipality said in a statement.
“The Zero Drowning Campaign continues to show good results and will remain in effect throughout the festive period and beyond, with the hope of achieving no drowning incidents.”
The city said it is fully prepared to welcome the public to its swimming pools, and at Alkantstrand, this season.
“Taking cognisance of the fact that these facilities will see a high volume of use, the city has invested considerable resources to maintain, enhance, and ensure that they stay safe, clean, and accessible throughout the festive season and beyond.
“City officials responsible for cleanliness and upkeep will be working hard to guarantee that our beaches and pools remain clean and conducive for swimming and other allowed activities.”
Residents and visitors are, however, urged to enjoy these facilities responsibly.
“Alcohol consumption is strictly prohibited; people are encouraged to swim only at lifeguard-supervised beaches, stay within the designated yellow and red flags, and follow all lifeguard instructions.”
