AS police intensify their fight against illegal firearms in King Cetshwayo, they recovered six illegal firearms and ammunition during an Nkandla operation.

King Cetshwayo Cluster Police spokesperson, Captain Siyanda Shangase, said the operation kicked off in Ohlelo Reserve where a 70-year-old was found in possession of an unlicensed AK-47 rifle with the serial number filed off.
“No rounds were found,” Shangase said. “Police proceeded to KwaNxamalala Reserve where they arrested two suspects; a 48-year-old and a 52-year-old.”
The former was found in possession of a Protecta Gauge shotgun with 87 live shotgun rounds and 64 live 9mm rounds.
The latter was was found in possession of a SAPS-issue R5 and shotgun with serial numbers filed off, one live round, and 13 live shotgun rounds.

Shangase added that all recovered firearms will be subjected to ballistic testing to check whether they have been used in any criminal offences.
“The suspects are expected to appear at Nkandla Magistrate’s Court soon,” he said.
