Zululanders brace for scorching public holiday as temperatures set to soar into the mid-30s

Scorching public holiday across Zululand region, with 'real feel' temperatures above 40°C before thunderstorms bring possible relief.

Zululanders are in for a scorcher of a Tuesday as the festive season officially gets under way with tomorrow’s public holiday.

Remember suntan lotion and hats if heading for the beach at Alkantstrand, as Richards Bay is in for highs of 35°C, with a real feel of 40°C and no cloud cover.

Wednesday will see 34°C with a real feel of 41°C, broken with an afternoon thunderstorm and 70% chance of rain.

Empangeni and Mtunzini residents are in for the same scorching temperatures this Day of Reconciliation, with the forecast 35°C feeling more like 41°C. Wednesday will drop to a more manageable 31°C and cloudy.

Elsewhere in the region, Mtubatuba can expect a humid 29°C, feeling more like 34°C, rising to 32°C on Wednesday with strong afternoon thunderstorms and 77% chance of rain forecast.

Hluhluwe can expect a warm and muggy 33°C on Tuesday, staying the same on Wednesday but with afternoon thunderstorms and 80% chance of rain forecast.

Further south and inland, eShowe residents are in for a partly sunny 33°C tomorrow (Tuesday), dipping to 29°C and afternoon thunderstorms on Wednesday, set to bring 56% chance of rain.

Meanwhile, the mercury is set to rise to 34°C on Tuesday in Pongola, with a real feel of 38°C, dipping to 33°C on Wednesday.

Afternoon thundery showers are forecast for Pongola on Wednesday, with an 84% chance of rain.
