For the level 5-affected areas, the SAWS said models indicate significant rain in excess of 50mm, with significant impacts possible in these areas.
Level 2-affected areas can expect widespread showers and thunder showers, with some thunderstorms expected to become severe along the coast.
Potential impacts
• Localised damage to infrastructure and settlements
• Localised flooding of susceptible roads and bridges
• Motor vehicle accidents owing to wet roads and poor visibility
• Localised injuries due to flying debris
“Take caution or avoid travelling on bridges and roads in low-lying areas as these may be susceptible to flooding and there may be sinkholes,” said SAWS.
“Avoid outdoor activities as hail, lightning and flooding may result in injuries and death. If possible, stay indoors and clear of windows. Shelter pets, cover vehicles, and move livestock to safe, sheltered areas.”
