Drunk driving blitz nabs 14 Empangeni motorists this weekend

Empangeni motorists were among hundreds arrested across KZN this weekend as authorities enforced a no nonsense approach to drunk driving

ON Saturday night, 14 Empangeni motorists were among many arrested for drunk driving in KZN.

Others spending the weekend behind bars include 171 motorists in Pietermaritzburg, 47 in Durban and two in Ladysmith.

Demonstrating a zero tolerance approach, those arrested in Pietermaritzburg included a municipal manager, an attorney, firefighters, educators, a doctor and nurses.

The arrests are part of the KZN Department of Transport’s #NenzaniLaEzweni Operation, which targets drunk driving and other road offences.

MEC for Transport and Human Settlements in KZN Siboniso Duma led a multi-disciplinary operation at Mariannhill Toll Plaza on the N3 on Saturday, 20 December.

“The No Nonsense RTI team has arrested 2 163 motorists for drunk driving since 15 August. The #NenzaniLaEzweni Operation has been augmented by the deployment of National Traffic Police with the support from SAPS and traffic officers from municipalities,” said Duma.
