New Year’s Day operation sees murder suspects nabbed in uMkhanyakude

Multi-disciplinary operation in Hlabisa nabs murder suspects

Police in uMkhanyakude District worked tirelessly to trace the region’s most wanted suspects, with a positive outcome.

Two murder suspects and one attempted murder suspect were nabbed during a multi-disciplinary operation in Hlabisa and Ezibayeni on the night of New Year’s Day.

Police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Sibusiso Mkhize said the trio was believed to be involved in various cases.

“Two were charged with murder, and the third suspect was charged with attempted murder and possession of a prohibited firearm.

“The two murder cases were reported at Hlabisa SAPS, and an attempted murder case was reported at Ezibayeni SAPS. All these cases were reported last year.

“Ntokozo Mthobisi Khumalo (31) is facing a murder charge, and Nkululeko Mabaso (26) was found in possession of a prohibited firearm.

“The last suspect, Cebolenkosi Myeni, was charged with attempted murder, which occurred in November,” said Mkhize.

The trio appeared at Hlabisa Magistrate’s Court on Friday, and were remanded in police custody pending further investigation.

They are due to appear before the same court this Friday for a formal bail application.
