Mining operations continue after RBM fire

Richards Bay Minerals says preliminary investigations into Monday's fire indicate electrical fault as likely cause

In a statement confirming Monday’s early morning fire at its mine office, Richards Bay Minerals (RBM) said no injuries were reported and that operations were continuing as normal.

“We confirm that a fire was reported in the early hours of yesterday morning at RBM’s mine office.

“Our preliminary investigations indicate that the likely cause of the fire was an electrical fault, and not the restructuring process as initially reported. The fire has been fully contained.

“No injuries have been reported, and all our employees and contractors are safe. Mining operations continue as normal, and a formal investigation into the cause of the fire is currently under way,” read the statement.
