KwaDukuza, Club Med reach consensus regarding employment

Club Med agrees to widen recruitment to all KwaDukuza residents following mayor-led talks over fairness concerns.

KwaDukuza Mayor Siduduzo Gumede and representatives of Club Med South Africa Beach and Safari Resort have reached a breakthrough agreement following public concerns over perceived unfair recruitment practices affecting wards 12, 20 and 22.

A bilateral meeting held on Wednesday evening acknowledged that the initial recruitment process for the resort’s construction phase prioritised three wards due to their proximity to the development, in line with approaches used in similar projects within KwaDukuza.

The engagement recognised the sensitivity of the issue and the need for an amicable resolution that considers the interests of the broader KwaDukuza community, particularly given the limited employment opportunities available during the current recruitment phase.

Gumede used the meeting to reaffirm his commitment to providing strategic oversight as the resort continues to function as a catalytic socio-economic development project within the municipality.

He also acknowledged the contributions already being made by the Club Med development towards sustainable job creation, skills development, small business growth, tourism expansion and broader economic inclusion.

The Club Med development team reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with the mayor and KwaDukuza municipal leadership to maximise meaningful local community participation through open, fair and transparent processes.

Resolutions
The meeting resolved to expand the recruitment process to include all residents of the KwaDukuza municipal area.

All post-construction employment opportunities will therefore be open to bona fide KwaDukuza residents.

Applicants who have already applied will not be required to reapply, and residents are urged to adhere strictly to the guidelines in the recruitment advertisement.

The Club Med South Africa Beach and Safari Resort development team said it has committed to continued collaboration with KwaDukuza Municipality and key stakeholders ahead of the project’s planned launch later this year.
