Sassa releases February 2026 grant payment dates, confirms SRD eligibility criteria
Sassa confirms February 2026 grant dates and amounts, and clarifies qualifying criteria for the Covid-19 SRD grant.
THE South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) has issued the grant payment dates for February 2026, and issued clarification on who qualifies for the SRD R370 payment.
The agency further took to social media to debunk false claims that the SRD Grant is about to be terminated, as well as that it was being rolled out to all foreign nationals.

“We wish to categorically state that no regulations have been amended, nor has the eligibility criteria changed. Should there be any changes in our regulations, that will be announced by the minister of social development, and the amended regulations will thus be published,” said Sassa CEO Themba Matlou.
“Members of the public need to verify information through official Sassa and government channels before circulation.”
The agency administers more than 19 million grant payments, including the Older Persons’ Pension Grant, Disability Grant, War Veterans’ Grant, Care Dependency Grant, Foster Child Grant, Child Support Grant, Child Support Grant Top-Up, and Grant-in-Aid.
February 2026 grant payment dates
Older Persons’ Grant – Tuesday, 3 February
Disability Grant – Wednesday, 4 February
Children’s and all other grants – Thursday, 5 February

Old Age Grant (60–74 years) and Disability Grant – R2?315
Old Age Grant (75+ years) – R2?335
War Veterans Grant – R2?315

Who qualifies for SRD Grant?
The Social Relief of Distress (SRD) Grant was implemented for unemployed South Africans during the Covid-19 pandemic.
• A person in need of temporary assistance may qualify if he/she is of insufficient means
• The person of insufficient means must be: a South African citizen; permanent resident; refugee; holder of a special permit under the Special Angolan Dispensation, the Lesotho Exemption Permit Dispensation, or the Zimbabwe Exemption Permit Dispensation; an asylum seeker whose Section 22 permit or visa is valid. Registered on the Department of Home Affairs database or Sassa’s social grants database with unique system-generated identifying number for people without ID documents
• Must be between the ages of 18 and 60, currently living within the borders of South Africa; not a resident in a government funded or subsidised institution; must not unreasonably refuse to accept employment or educational opportunities
