Drunk driving ‘case dismissal’ scam exposed

District warns of scammers posing as police officers and demanding payments to make drunk driving cases to go away

SAPS in King Cetshwayo District have warned about a scam targeting people who have been arrested for drunk driving.

King Cetshwayo District SAPS spokesperson Captain Siyanda Shangase said individuals are posing as police officers who contact victims and demand payments of up to R5 000 in exchange for making their cases ‘disappear’.

Shangase cautioned that there is a legal process that must be followed regarding arrests, including fingerprints and court procedures.

“People should refrain from paying money to anyone claiming they can erase fingerprints or make a case disappear. This is a scam,” said Shangase.
