Empangeni SPCA rescues 3 wounded donkeys, pleads for community help

SPCA pleads for donations to care for 3 wounded donkeys in Empangeni

After taking three badly wounded donkeys into their care, the Empangeni SPCA has called on its loyal and generous supporters to help with any donations towards the animals’ care.

Detailing the incident on their Facebook page, the SPCA condemned such abuse to animals.

“The injuries are consistent with being hit or beaten with a sharp object such as a cane knife/panga,” said the SPCA.

“The question remains, why? What did they do to deserve such cruel treatment?”

The first donkey was reportedly found on Thursday by the SPCA’s kennel supervisor, Don Ntsele, in the area where he lives.

“He closed her up and we left to pick her up early [Friday] morning,” said Empangeni SPCA.

“As we were loading her, we were approached by another gentleman who had two similarly injured donkeys – a mom and baby – in his yard.

“Knowing we could not leave a compromised, injured animal in this heat, we load them as well.

“This leaves our already straining society with not just one, but three injured donkeys in need of food, shelter and vet care.

“We are pleading with our community for any donations towards their care.”

The donkeys have since been assessed by the State vet, their wounds treated and pain medication administered.

To donate, contact Empangeni SPCA on 071 1744746.
