North coast affected by fish kill incident, these areas are temporarily closed
KwaDukuza Municipality institutes beach, tidal pool closure in uMhlali and Salt Rock after fish kill incident
KWADUKUZA Municipality has undertaken to close until further notice the uMhlali River mouth at Tinley Manor beach and the Shaka’s Cove tidal pool in Salt Rock.
This after hundreds of dead fish were found to have washed down uMhlali River earlier in the week.

“This precautionary measure has been implemented in the interest of public health, environmental protection and public safety,” said the municipality in a statement on Friday.
The municipality went on to say that investigations are under way to determine the cause of the incident.
Comprehensive water quality assessments are also being conducted.
The public is advised to:
- Refrain from swimming or entering the water
- Avoid fishing, collecting marine life, or participating in any water-related activities
- Keep children and pets away from the affected area
“Relevant authorities are actively monitoring the situation and will provide updates as further information becomes available,” said the municipality.
“The affected areas will be reopened only once it has been confirmed that conditions are safe for public use.”
