Zini court sentences man to 5 life terms + 155 years

High court in Mtunzini sentences man for 5 life terms plus 155 years for variety of crimes including rape and attempted murder

THE high court in Mtunzini on Friday sentenced a man to five life terms plus 155 years behind bars for a variety of crimes.

Muzikhona Khehla Khumbulani Mthethwa (36) was found guilty of seven counts of rape, two counts of attempted murder, three counts of robbery, as well as house break-in and assault.

According to the police report, Mthethwa had been terrorising communities in Richards Bay, KwaMbonambi and Empangeni since 2017.

In March of that year, he raped and strangled a woman in KwaMbonambi, with the intention of killing her.

“During his cold blooded raping spree, Mthethwa also came across three women in Richards Bay.

“He fired a shot at one woman and raped the other while forcing the other victims to witness the act.

“His reign of terror ended when he was arrested and charged on 21 counts, inclusive of rape, attempted murder, business robbery, house break-in and assault,” said the SAPS report.
