Widespread power outages affect northern KZN

Eskom technicians working to restore electricity after storm sweeps through northern coastal region

Eskom has deployed teams to restore power following widespread outages to the north coast of KZN after Sunday’s severe weather.

The power utility’s central east cluster stakeholder management, Joyce Zingoni, said teams are working to restore electricity after a storm swept through the northern coastal region.

“Technicians worked through the night, and repair work to damaged infrastructure is ongoing. Eskom aims to restore electricity supply to all affected customers as soon as possible,” she said.

Areas impacted include eSikhaleni, Hluhluwe, Mtubatuba, KwaMbonambi, Sokhulu, Cingci, Dondotha, St Lucia, Ulundi, Hlungwane, Okhukho, KwaZungu, Mahlabathini, Ceza, Madaka, Ndinde, Mozni, Melmoth, Nkwalini, Yanguye, Magwaza, Babanango, Makhosini, Entembeni, Nkandla, Qhudeni, Vumanhlamvu, Mfongosi, Kombe and Dolwane.

“Progress may be hampered by accessibility challenges in certain areas. Eskom appeals to customers for patience and understanding while teams work safely and efficiently under these conditions. Customers are urged to treat all electrical installations as live at all times to avoid injury,” said Zingoni.

Customers are encouraged to report fallen or unsafe electrical infrastructure using any of Eskom’s self-service platforms:
