Attempted murder, robbery and kidnapping accused convicted
Four people sentenced at eSikhaleni Regional Court for attempted murder, robbery and kidnapping
The eSikhaleni Regional Court has sentenced four accused who were found guilty of attempted murder, robbery and kidnapping.
This after they assaulted a victim and dumped her in the Amatikulu River, believing she would die.
Fanele Hazel Masuku (32), Ntobeko Sabelo Qwabe (26), Mxolisi Samkelo Zulu (25) and Nzuzo Nxusa (25) were convicted on three counts and collectively sentenced to a total of 33 years’ imprisonment.
King Cetshwayo acting district commissioner, Brigadier Mandlakayise Mhlongo, welcomed the sentences.
“They took the victim’s property, assaulted and kidnapped her. They stabbed her several times and drove with her before dumping her in the Amatikulu River, thinking she would die. Fortunately, she managed to get out of the river and seek help,” said Mhlongo.
He added that the men were later arrested and the matter was initially handled in the lower court in Empangeni before being transferred to the Regional Court in eSikhaleni, where it was finalised.
