At the same time, it will help identify rising young talent and build community spirit.

The Rotary clubs of Richards Bay and Empangeni have been assisting the team from KZN Cycling with putting this event together.

This event will be run as a lap-based race, with riders competing within their respective age group categories over a chosen distance of 26km, 39km, 52km or 78km.

The route loop will include Essenwood, Enkeldoringdraai, Haakdoringrug, Mkhulu, Via Richardia and Olienhoutkoppie streets.

Cyclists must register at https://hillsandwaves.co.za/richards-bay-entry-form/ by Thursday, 12 March – no entries will be processed on the day.

The ride starts and finishes at Richards Bay High School, and the top 25 young riders in the U13 (26km), U15 (39km), U19 and Open (52km) categories qualify for the KZN Cycling Schools Road Series Final that takes place at this year’s aQuellé Tour Durban on 19 April.

For non-registered riders, the link for a day licence is: www.cyclingsa-events.co.za

While the event is free of charge, cyclists may wish to make a R50 donation toward admin and other fees.
