Crime spikes in Meerensee

Meerensee CPF raises alarm over recent spike in crime targeting homes in the local suburb

The crime rate in Meerensee has reached ‘unprecedented levels’, reportedly the highest in 15 years.

This was revealed by the suburb’s CPF, which posted the most recent crime stats on its Facebook page on Tuesday.

“February saw 36 incidents, encompassing break-ins, attempted break-ins, and wall jumpers,” read the post.

“For March, 13 incidents have been documented to date, including break-ins, attempted break-ins, and wall jumpers.

“Despite the tireless efforts of responders and patrollers to ensure residents’ safety, resources remain limited and, regrettably, crime has reached its highest point in 15 years.

“We encourage all residents to report incidents to the SAPS and to open cases.”

The CPF also urged residents with CCTV cameras to maintain clean camera lenses to ensure clear images and video footage – often crucial for identifying perpetrators.

“We also urge residents to refrain from leaving valuables in vehicles; ensure gates are locked, and verify that electric fencing alarms are functioning correctly.

“The current situation demands urgent attention, and we invite interested residents to join the CPF patrollers or responders by sending a direct message with their contact details.”
