Beach reclamation continues after summer holiday season

Extra dredge spoil replenishing Alkantstrand is warmly welcomed.

With the TNPA dredger Ilembe still working the general area of the harbour entrance, sand is continually being pumped onto the beach via the pipeline just north of Alkantstrand.

Despite this being after the peak holiday season has ended, the extra dredge spoil replenishing the beach is warmly welcomed.

The project that began in early December certainly made a big difference to the depth of the water off the main beach, ensuring greater bather safety.

For the first time, the summer swimming season saw no drownings at Alkantstrand or the notorious Bay Hall area.

And for surfers, the extra sand on the sea bed has seen some super waves rolling in.
