Man charged for assault and illegal gun possession

Crime intelligence-driven operation nabs 22-year-old suspect in KwaDukuza for possession of an illegal firearm

A 22-year-old suspect was arrested on Saturday for possession of an illegal firearm and ammunition.

This was a result of a crime intelligence-driven operation conducted by iLembe and KwaDukuza Police following a tip-off.

The suspect reportedly assaulted a woman known to him and pointed a firearm at her. SAPS interviewed the victim, and an operation was planned to recover the unlicensed firearm and arrest the suspect.

iLembe Police Communication Officer, Priya Nunkumar, said police went to the suspect’s home in Shayamoya Rural Settlement in KwaDukuza.

“A suspect was found in possession of a Rossi 38 Special Revolver with the serial number filed off, and two live rounds of ammunition.”

She added that the suspect was also charged with assault GBH, and the firearm was sent off to ballistic testing. He is set to appear in KwaDukuza Magistrate’s Court.
