WATCH: Bumper long weekend looms

Plenty to do on land and sea in Richards Bay this Easter weekend

It’s going to be an action-packed sporting and social weekend for residents and visitors, with Easter church services adding to the family options.

Top of the list is the 42nd annual Bonanza fishing competition at the Richards Bay Ski Boat Club, which had been put on hold since the 2020 Covid outbreak, with big money up for grabs.

Anglers have a second option as the Umlalazi Couta Classic will be taking place at Mtunzini, again with a number of upcountry entries and boats to add to the local tourism revenue.

Motor racing fans will throng to the oval track at the ZCBF Showgrounds for one of the year’s highlights, the V8 Sprint Car Tour.

Another annual event back in business is the Inhaca Island Yacht Race, now in its 33rd year, with boats cruising up during the week and racing back over the Easter weekend.

For churchgoers, the Easter sunrise service at Alkantstrand will attract thousands on Sunday morning.

And with the summer heat still hanging around, the beaches and recreation area around the Bay Hall will be packed to capacity over the weekend.

For football fans who will still be recovering after the holiday break, action will continue in the new week as Richards Bay FC host Stellenbosch on Tuesday evening and the mighty Orlando Pirates on Friday evening.
