Manhunt for three suspects who escaped from Ingwavuma police cells

Three dangerous suspects escaped from Ingwavuma police cells on Sunday morning.

Reports suggest the incident occurred at about 7.30am while police members had gone to serve breakfast to the suspects in the cells.

A source claimed that when the police officers opened the cells, the three suspects in question grabbed them and overpowered them before fleeing on foot.

“As a result, police have launched a massive manhunt. [The suspects] have not yet been found. They are very dangerous,” he said.

uMkhanyakude Cluster police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Sibusiso Mkhize confirmed that a case of escaping from lawful custody was registered for investigation at Ingwavuma SAPS.

Mduduzi Njokweni, accused of possession of unlicensed firearm, is at large

“Three detainees, Bongumusa Gumede (40) accused of rape, Sandiso Mavimbela (19), accused of rape, and Mduduzi Njokweni (30), accused of possession of unlicensed firearm and cartridge, escaped from Ingwavuma police cells while being fed.

They are still at large. We urge anyone who might have information of their whereabouts to contact the investigating officer, Captain Mantengu on 072 6206678 and/or Crime Stop on 08600 10111.

All tip-offs will be kept confidential,” said Mkhize.
