The engagement brought together a diverse group of stakeholders across the agricultural value chain, providing a platform to exchange insights on workforce readiness, sector challenges and future skills requirements.

Speaking on behalf of employers, Phiwo Thango, general manager of Ohaheni Farm, welcomed the initiative, describing it as ‘rich and meaningful’.

He noted that the farm is currently hosting seven students for in-service training, reflecting its ongoing investment in skills development and industry collaboration.

“The engagement provided an opportunity to exchange insights with fellow farmers, college management, the Department of Agriculture, Bidvest and FNB,” said Thango.

He further outlined Ohaheni Farm’s growth strategy, which focuses on student-led agricultural innovation.
Key priorities include expanding goat and cattle breeding operations, introducing additional livestock, and scaling crop production initiatives.

The session underscored the importance of closer cooperation between education providers and industry players in cultivating opportunities, empowering future talent, and building a more resilient and competitive agricultural sector.
