2 Manguzi Task Team members killed in accident

Manguzi Tactical Response Team (TRT) members die in a single-vehicle car crash in Mpumalanga

Two police officers deployed as part of the Manguzi Task Team lost their lives in a single-vehicle crash in Witbank, Mpumalanga on Tuesday night.

The duo were Tactical Response Team (TRT) members and were reportedly en route to Pretoria.

According to national police spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe, the duo was travelling to Pretoria to testify in cases before court when the State vehicle in which they were travelling lost control.

“As part of the Manguzi Task Team in KZN, they were actively involved in combatting cross-border crimes. The SAPS extends its deepest sympathies to the colleagues of the fallen members, particularly those within the Manguzi Task Team who worked closely with them in the fight against crime,” said Mathe.

Acting national SAPS commissioner, Lieutenant General Dimpane said the loss of these dedicated officers is a devastating blow to the organisation.

“They served the country with commitment and courage. Our thoughts and prayers are with their families and loved ones during this painful time,” said Dimpane.
