Road upgrade for Mandlankala community

City of uMhlathuze to upgrade Mandlankala gravel road to tar, vows to continue investing in infrastructure development in areas of Amakhosi

Efforts to upgrade several roads within rural communities across the City of uMhlathuze are bearing fruit.

This as uMhlathuze Municipality continues to invest millions into tarring gravel roads under various tribal authorities, with the latest project being the construction of a 2.4km road in Madlankala near eSikhaleni.

Speaking at a sod-turning event on Monday, uMhlathuze Mayor Xolani Ngwezi said R30.9m will be spent on the construction of the road in Madlankala, which is set to be completed in three months.

Ngwezi said this road upgrade forms part of the municipality’s ongoing programme to change the face of rural communities within the city.

He cited various other road developments, including Mandlazini and eNiwe, which have already been completed.

“We are slowly but surely beginning to change areas of amaKhosi,” said the mayor, highlighting plans to reduce the number of gravel roads within areas under tribal authorities.

He urged local industry and amaKhosi to join forces with the municipality to ensure infrastructure development across the City of uMhlathuze.
