Sangoma’s killers sentenced to life by eShowe court

In addition to life imprisonment, the accused were declared unfit to possess firearms


TWO men were recently handed life sentences by Eshowe Regional Court for killing a 77-year-old woman in Melmoth last July.

Mxolisi Bhekani Sthole (30) and Fisokuhle Scelo Mhlongo (31) pleaded guilty, stating they believed the deceased, who was a traditional healer, was bewitching them.

They told the court that, at around midnight, they entered her home, assaulted her, strangled her, and slit her throat before fleeing the scene.

They were arrested the following day, as police followed information received on their whereabouts.

In addition to life imprisonment, the accused were declared unfit to possess firearms.

NPA provincial spokesperson, Natasha Ramkisson-Kara said, “The pursuit of justice on behalf of victims and their families remains our priority”.
