Richards Bay residents voice concern as litter floods CBD parking lots

The shopping centre manager says the parking area at the entrances does not fall under the ownership or management of the centre.

BROKEN bottles, discarded rubbish, and an overwhelming smell of urine greet shoppers alighting their vehicles in parking lots surrounding Boardwalk Inkwazi Shopping Centre.

Richards Bay resident Charleen Faure Wroe-street described the area as ‘disgusting’ and ‘an insult to cultured humans’ on social media.

Acknowledging the concerns raised, Boardwalk Inkwazi Shopping Centre manager Thilen Naidoo said the parking area at the entrances to Bluff Meats and Food Lover’s Market does not fall under the ownership or management of the centre.

“At present, the municipality has not granted centre management the authority or management rights over this parking space. As a result, maintenance, upkeep and operational responsibilities remain outside of our direct control,” said Naidoo.
