March and March take protest to eSikhaleni

Protestors hand over a memorandum of grievances amid calls for government to act against illegal immigration

March and March on Saturday staged a peaceful protest at eSikhawini SAPS, where they handed over their memorandum of grievances.

These included the alleged selling of fake items and expired foodstuffs by foreigners at spaza shops.

“Last year, various government structures worked very hard in various schools where pupils had to be rushed to hospitals after eating chips which they had bought from foreign national-owned tuck-shops,” said King Cetshwayo March and March leader Xolani Gumede.

“We are here today to urge police, other law enforcement structures and the CFP to work with us in conducting inspections in all shops owned by foreign nationals. We need to verify the owners of these tuckshops.

“We need to check the validity of their stock. We also need to check whether their stock meets the required standards, and to see if it is valid for human consumption,” he said.

Gumede went on to call for illegal foreigners to be sent ‘back to their countries of origin’.

He further called for the police to investigate alleged private clinics, drug dealing, and those working in construction.

After handing over their memorandum, the police urged the group to report any suspicious criminal activities to the SAPS.
